The Origin of Evil

Before there was Creation, there was Void. And within the Void great abominations of darkness and malevolence eternally slumbered. So it was that when the Forge of Creation was lit its warmth stirred these herculean monstrosities and their twisted dreams touched the minds of mortals, turning them towards perverse thoughts and vile pursuits they were never meant to know. And like an insidious plague, the taint of the Void spread slowly and silently, bringing evil into Creation.

While some were driven mad by these dreams, others became curious, and others still turned to veneration. The Elder Evils, as these abominable powers of the Void became collectively known, soon woke from their slumber – now empowered by worship – and broke into Creation. It was only by the power of the gods that they, too powerful to be destroyed, were driven back into the Void and imprisoned. Unfortunately, by the time the gods were able to turn their attention back to Creation – having suffered great losses among their ranks – millennia had passed and some of those who exalted the Unknown Ones had erected entire civilizations. Though over time those noble races empowered by the gods overcame these aberrant forces, Elder Cults exist today – lurking within civilization and without, keeping their secrets and their rituals until such a time as their madness can unleash the Elder Evils again.
