Red Mithral

Red Mithral is exceedingly rare. Like it’s cousin, it grows in crystalline structures deep in the Underearth near sources of large iron deposits and extreme heat. It is often found in tiny amounts along with Mithral but as far as is known, all attempts to make any alloy renders the properties of the ore useless. When this crystal is ground to powder it can be melted down and worked like steel. The resulting material is a glistening metallic red in color and is lighter than steel but just as hard. The natural properties of Red Mithral make it particularly useful in creating Armor and other items to be imbued with nature magic which made it highly sought after by Druids of Gremmen and it is occasionally used for other items as well. Armors made of Red Mithral are not affected by spells such as heat metal and are treated one category lighter than normal for purposes of movement and other limitations if the skill of the smith is sufficient. Heavy armors then would be treated as medium. This decrease does not apply to proficiency in wearing the armor. A character wearing Red mithral full plate must be proficient in wearing heavy armor to avoid adding the armor’s check penalty to all his attack rolls and skill checks that involve moving. Spell failure chances for armors and shields made from red mithral are the same as Mithral.
